Shofar
A shofar is an instrument made out of a rams horn. Shofar blasts were sounded preceding a war to rally the troops for action and to call the people together for prayer and repentance. The shofar is therefore like an air raid siren that alerts us to danger, and summons us to action. The shofar was blown on the first day of the seven month (Tishri) to commence the Feast of Trumpets.
