"In the painting,
Cattails, I wanted to preserve a scene out of a beautiful November afternoon.
The ability to suspend time and share one of these special moments is one of the greatest joys of
painting. Even though in the real world the cat leaped off the corral post in the next few minutes, her
presence is captured here for us to admire. We can, at our leisure, imagine running our fingers through the
cloud of orange fur, or feel the grain of the post's weathered wood, or break off some of the cattails and listen
to the way they snap and rattle.
"As we stride toward the future, a painting can be a window into the past - a place to pause and reflect and reaffirm
our bond with nature. In a hurry-up world where people long for tranquility, maybe an orange cat sitting on a
fence post can be enough."
