Print Description:

"The raccoons found in North America are the most familiar wild animals. Hunting by night, they
have an omnivorous diet; but they are especially fond of crayfish.
More so than any other wild animal, raccoons are often sought after as pets. This is perhaps because
they remind people of their own youngsters - what with their grasping paws, big eyes, and a cry that sounds
very much like a human baby. As pets they seem to be good natured until they are about a year old, and then
many people find that their docile pet has become a pest. You can't take wild out of wildlife, and in spite
of their cuteness, raccoons are no exception. To keep wild animals as pets requires very special handling
and knowledge that the general public usually doesn't have. I, myself, prefer to see the many homeless
domestic animals adopted and the wildlife remain in the wild."
