Was the daughter of Amram and Jochebed;
older sister of Aaron and Moses; one later tradition holds that she was married to Caleb (see Joshua 14:6), while
Josephus considered her the wife of Hur, a leader appointed by Moses (Exodus 17:10). |

The name Miriam (or Mary) became popular
among the Jews, perhaps in honor of Miriam's role in the Exodus. |
