Artist
Tom duBois (pronounced doo-BWAH) has the gift of seeing through a child's eyes thus transforming the realistic into the fantastic. The results are highly imaginative works of art unique to his creative genius.
A true Renaissance man, duBois has merged his love of art, poetry, and music into an interesting and diverse career. He is an illustrator as well as a fine artist, poet, singer, and storyteller. Tom often appears at gallery signings with his acoustic guitar and sings to the amazement and delight of his collectors. He is fond of a quote by Picasso,
"Every child is an artist. The problem is remaining a child once you grow up."
Tom spent three years of vigorous study at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. After a one year apprenticeship at a large production house in the heart of the Loop training in the essentials of life drawing, illustration, design, and painting, Tom began his career in 1980.
Tom's Noah's Ark Series was extremely popular and his collectors eagerly anticipated each new release from his Biblical art series. The Disney Discovery Series, now completely sold out from the publisher and available only on the secondary market, was completed in 1996. Featured in each of the five paintings is a scene from a Disney movie.
Tom duBois' passion for life and enthusiasm for the world of imagination breathe life into every piece he creates.
"Like every kid, Disney was a big part of my life growing up. I loved all the characters, and the sheer fantasy and creativity of the animated films was an inspiration. The complex compositions, with their hidden images, are as challenging to render as they are to discover. The whole idea of producing these works just thrills me."
The list of some of the clients Tom has worked for include Alpo, Betty Crocker, Quaker Oats, General Mills, Celestial Seasonings, Smuckers, Gatorade, Gillette, McDonalds, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Nintendo, Enesco (Precious Moments),
The Bradford Exchange (collectibles), and Disney Studios.
Tom currently does editorial illustrations for the
Good News Christian Journal, and a number of his images are available through Concordia Publishing House. He also began Triune Art which is a company that develops and produces fine art products while using profits from sales to help Christian organizations like Good News spread the Gospel.
