"Dana is an artist herself and a great friend of mine. We also share a passion for cats. Clea and Lily are her
cats, and they live with her in London. Dan's tall house was built in 1880, in the same year that
William Morris designed this grapevine wallpaper; the floor tiles are original, too. I conceived the
painting on my first visit to Dana's house, and she gave me a length of the William Morris wallpaper as
reference.
Clea and Lea are very fortunate now, but their start in life was sad. They were born in a car park, and
their mother abandoned them soon afterwards. The attendant discovered them and was kind enough to take
them to a rescue shelter. Dana heard of this and went along to the shelter to adopt one. Seeing the two, she
couldn't leave one on its own, and she said they looked so beautiful together that she just had to have
them both.
I really enjoyed painting them in their home setting."
