"Last September, our yellow lab, Curry, had eleven black puppies. We were dumbfounded. We had supposed, since
it was her first litter, that she'd star out small with just four or five pups.
"On sunny days, we'd load all of Curry's puppies into a wheelbarrow and take them out into the yard; without
the wheelbarrow, we would have had to made six trips carrying two at a time. At first, the pups slept
or crawled around the yard, but soon they were running, barking, biting each other's tails, and introducing
themselves to the kittens. In the pups' opinions, anything in the yard was fair game: sandbox toys, plants,
insects, leaves, laundry, bones, cats, and sticks.
"One of the puppies, however, preferred feathers to anything else; hence his name,
Featherbrain. If there
were no feathers in sight, he'd search until he found one. I know
Featherbrain has kind owners who have
given him a warm dog house, good food, and good care; I hope they have also given him lots of feathers!"
