Print Description:

"The cat in Stone Lyin' belongs to our neighbors on an adjoining ranch. He is the undisputed
monarch of the barn and surrounding acreage. He routs any challengers to the crown and banishes
them to parts unknown - legs flailing and tails in the air!
As I was working on the stone wall, I realized that it looked like the style that I used in art
school where realism was frowned upon. Working in the abstract is harder than it sounds and has inspired
many art students to drop out. I thought it was fun, though, to have no boundaries. In a sense, all painting
is a form of abstraction. The objective image of the scene is filtered through the artist's subjective viewpoint,
and the result is a succession of brush strokes on canvas arranged in a way that the realist painter hopes will
sweep the viewer into another reality. Stone Lyin' was especially fun to paint because it was a blend of two
styles I enjoy - the real and the abstract."
