"Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6:17).
Artist Jeff Haynie creatively symbolizes the "Sword of the Spirit" as it cuts through the darkness of sin.
The flame from the sword depicts the friction of good against evil. The rubies are symbolic of Jesus' blood that
cleanses us from all sin (I John 1:7). The lions symbolize the Lion of Judah — a reference to Christ's bloodline.
The hands holding the pearl are from the parable of The Pearl of Great Price which symbolizes Christ (Matthew 13:45-46).
The wheat on the blade is in reference to Christ's sacrifice (John 12:23-24). The "Sword of the Spirit" is our weapon
against spiritual warfare. It is also the living word of God which is powerful and sharper than any double-edged sword...and
is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of our hearts (Hebrews 4:12).
Jeff Haynie is a contemporary artist whose work has been published by Focus on the Family, American Tract Society,
Moody Press and major corporations such as American Airlines, IBM, Pepsi Cola and Texas Instruments. His work
has been exhibited around the world. From his dramatic painting of Jesus calming the storm to the force of the Sword
of the Spirit he is committed to sharing the excitement and power of living the Christians life. Jeff Haynie, a frequent
guest lecturer, is on the adjunct art faculty of The University of North Texas. He resides with his family in Dallas,
Texas.
