Print Description:

"My hometown is blessed by mountains. In the summer, melting snow from the high
peaks feed streams that are wonderfully cool and refreshing. When I was a lad,
we had our choice of Arcadian swimming holes, deep and safe, framed by old trees
and big diving rocks. It was heavenly.

"Blessings of Summer, third in my Blessings of the Seasons
collection, is my tribute to the perfect bliss of a long-ago summer day spent fishing and
diving at the old swimming hole. I've added the picturesque stone mill,
with water dancing down the mill race and pouring over the massive wheel,
because it always seemed to me that my favorite haunts lacked only a grist
mill to achieve perfection. They lack it no longer.

"There is a brilliance to the blue of a summer sky that I rarely paint, but
I chose it here in contrast to the billowing cotton ball clouds. And the
subtle rainbow shimmering in the waterfall mist is one of those effects
that makes my romantic heart leap.

"People have asked by about the boy who looks ready to cast aside his pole
and plunge into the cool waters with his dog. Is he a portrait of the artist
as a young man? I suppose I could answer — but I'd rather you decide."
