Print Description:
|
Artist Arleta Pech first photographs different setups of a subject to determine her
composition and the ideal lighting effects. A detailed drawing follows, in which the
sunlit highlights remain white. Next, come the darkest background colors, with color
pulled around the pencil lines to enhance the feeling of light on a subject. Glazes
are then applied to suggest shadows, before the smaller background areas are painted.
When Arleta Pech paints lace, she actually only paints the holes, using irregular shapes
for greater realism. After the first glaze has dried, Pech erases pencil lines and adds
more glazes to deepen the values and create a more three-dimensional look. Final
glazes are applied in succession with special attention given to the edges of objects,
creating a more realistic look and the illusion of depth.
