Print Description:

For almost a century, Dartmouth students have been making the most of snowy February with the Winter
Carnival. All of the students take a weekend break from studying for some much-needed fun and frolic.
The festivities include the building of snow statues by fraternities and sororities, a ski
competition with other New England schools, a concert, theater performance and merry-making all across
campus.
Americana artist Charles Wysocki says, "In spite of the winter cold - or maybe because of it - the
Dartmouth campus heats up to a fever pitch every February. It's the Winter Carnival, and everyone
joins in the festivities. Perhaps the most memorable of each year's events are the snow sculptures
that rise in different parts of the campus. I've portrayed a few of the many sculptures that have
cropped up over the years and hope that Carnival Capers will help recall good times,
simpler days and values that one gains from the Dartmouth experience."
--- Charles Wysocki
