Introduction to Scripture of the Day

Daily Bread

I am truly amazed by the mysterious ways in which the Holy Spirit can deliver an essential Word (Psalm 119:57) to us and how His Word (our daily bread) comes just in time to encourage us and restore our faith (Psalm 119:92).

In the Old Testament, God miraculously nourished, energized, and sustained His people's physical bodies by sending manna from heaven each morning (see Exodus 16), but He reminded them that "Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live"
(Deuteronomy 8:3).

In the New Testament, God demonstrated His point. He sent His Son Jesus (His Word which became flesh) to be supernatural, spiritual manna to those who "ask," "seek," and "knock" (Matthew 7:7-8).

Throughout His earthly ministry Jesus
often spoke to people in parables. He symbolically referred to Himself as "the true bread from heaven" (John 6:32), "the bread which came down from heaven" (John 6:41), and the "bread of life" (John 6:48-51, 58).

At the Last Supper, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, gave it to His disciples, and then told them to "Take, eat: this is my body." (Matthew 26:26).

The profound message Jesus delivered to His disciples that Passover night still remains in effect today. Jesus is inviting us to partake of Him ("eat" Him). He wants to become the focus of our affection, the center of our devotion, our strength, our purpose, our productivity, and our meaning of life.

We encourage you to visit our website daily to feast on "the Word" (John 1:1). No matter where you are in your spiritual walk, take in this bread daily (Job 23:12); your spirit will be refreshed and become healthy, strong, and mature.
