Provocative Pastime
Not so long ago,
sports meant athletic talent and competitive games. But now, sports are much more than that: they're a breeding ground for
"the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life" (I John 2:16).
First off, the sports industry advertises with
fleshly lusts (beer, cars, food, and whatever else you might desire). Second, the sports industry pollutes its ranks with scantily clad women. From TV commercials and cheerleaders to sports magazines, marketers know that sexual innuendos attract the
lust of the eyes and sell their products. So if you enjoy sports, guard your eye gate! Jesus said,
"But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart"
(Matthew 5:28). Third, the sports industry gives fans ample opportunity to fantasize about the
pride of life (physical talent, money, and fame) while idolizing athletes. Please check out the
sports stories below to read how advertising has ruined the innocence of sports.
